When Helena first began to tackle the perplexing notion of time in June 2010, it was a project that stemmed directly form the heart. After the passing of her husband in 1997, Helena entered a short but powerful phrase into her journal - "Time used to be timeless, oh, and how life is precious; you are all consuming." And when her mother passed in 2008 at the age of 85, she was forced to look back on her mother’s life to understand who she truly was. And so the 'Time’ exhibition (http://www.williamsart.co.uk/Williams_Art/time.html) was an opportunity to look at the changing nature of time on the human condition, where one sees the body deteriorate but the soul remain omnipresent. Women and girls were photographed in 10-year increments, ranging from 0 to 100 years old. As an on-going project, Helena is now exhibiting the ‘Time Portraits’ for the fourth time and has expanded her subjects to include men and boys, with the aim of reaching 1100 portraits to be shown in London in the [near] future. "This is not only about the passage of time, but also a celebration of it."
Helena is inviting all those with a zero in their age to take part in this project.
