Babylon ARTS is a small local community venue where big things happen. We deliver arts events and activities that engage audiences in memorable and personal ways as well as providing quality entertainment.
We believe that the work we do for the community in Ely and beyond makes the area a better place to live and contributes to our audiences’ enjoyment of their environment. We think that the arts offer us opportunities to understand ourselves better and our place in society; enhances our sense of well-being, confidence and self-esteem and even enables us to make new friends.
Each year Babylon ARTS welcomes over 40,000 people who visit or take part in cultural events and activities. We are the second highest attended attraction in Ely, second only to Ely Cathedral.
Why we need support
Babylon ARTS currently does not receive any local authority funding. We are reliant on ticket sales and earned income to sustain our work. We are hugely grateful to local authorities in the past that have supported us but there is no legal obligation for them to continue to do. In order to safeguard our future and sustain quality experiences for our community we need to fundraise more widely to continue to offer a varied programme.
As well as organising live theatre, comedy and music events we also run Ely Cinema, Babylon Gallery, Creative People & Places and many other opportunities for people to take part in and access the arts. All of our events have a cost. Members, sponsors and regular supporters already help raise much needed funds, volunteers help to keep our Gallery open and support our work with young people.
If every visitor donated £1 we could face the future with much more confidence. However, any donation, no matter how small will be gratefully received and will go directly to cultural activities and events staged at Babylon ARTS.
Babylon ARTS is run by ADEC, Registered Charity No. 1043197.
