Study the different meanings of everyday items and foodstuffs in the painted still lives of northern and southern Europe. We will explore the work of 17th century Dutch artists de Heda, Claesz, de Heem, Kalf and Peeters; 18th century Spanish painters Cotán and Melendez and 18th century French artists Chardin and Vallayer-Coster.
